Hi, It’s been awhile. After the busy holiday season participating in a bunch of art markets + filling orders, I’m back with some fun business tips if you’re just starting out
I think it’s time we talk about S O C I A L M E D I A. Now, word of mouth is probably one of the most important marketing factors for a business, but to get there we first need to get social. Having a presence online not only makes it easier for people to find your products or services on the fly, but it also helps you look professional.
Here’s some ways to get online, find your niche market, and to grow your social in an organic way – meaning unpaid + not spamming people.. because let’s face it the second someone sends me a message that I know is impersonal or I know they sent the same emoji in a DM to 1000 other people, I’m not even responding.
So let’s start there. BE YOURSELF.
The main thing to know + to grow your business online is to be you, don’t be a salesman, don’t spam people who aren’t even your ideal clients, and show the outside world who you are.
This starts by showing yourself + showing up for yourself. Post on stories, engage with your followers, don’t pressure them into buying into your products or services. (Don’t be the pyramid scheme moms. Sorry not sorry, please read my Pyramid Scheme post to know what I’m talking about)
Invest some time into posting consistently, but not doing “happy world doughnut day” posts because unless you run a doughnut shop, it’s irrelevant and not worthy of a post.
Invest into boosting your BEST and highest quality posts with some instagram and Facebook ads. Figure out which platforms your target market uses the most and focus on those. You DO NOT need to be on every social platform, only the ones that are going to prove valuable to your business.
Find hashtags that aren’t too overused because if you use #business your post is going to be a tiny fish in a sea of other posts that no one can find, sorry Nemo.
Use hashtags that are more specific to your area, your niche, and ones that make sense. I.e. be more specific.. instead of #business try #atlantatattoos or #hartfordartist.
Pro Tip: Think about starting with a free post scheduler so you can see and plan out the aesthetic of your posts. You can then go to a paid one that has more options from there, it will save you tons of time in the long run. It will also help you be on brand and resonate with your target market.

My last tip would be to Just Start! I promise you’re thinking about it too much and need to just go ahead and bite the bullet and start getting your stuff out there. It’s easy to psyche yourself out, especially if you’re not one for showing your face or talking to *no one* on your phone screen. But it will definitely get easier and less embarrassing, I’m not saying you need to jump right into making reels of you dancing and lip-synching to overdone songs, but start somewhere.
